"The vegetables are good, and they are tasty to eat," said fifth-grader Tamaj Wilks, who has worked with and on the farm for the last two years.
Each week, he works at their farmer's market, where they provide low-cost, fresh foods to the people in their Southwest Philadelphia neighborhood.
"It's for our community, so we're working for our community," he said.
The farm's director, Christopher Bolden-Newsome, says their market brings something to the neighborhood that is lacking.
"We are an African diaspora-centered farm, a spiritually rooted operation, a space that is dedicated to cultural renewal to promoting and providing the means to community health," Bolden-Newsomem said.
He says their farm and market are all about wellness.
"It's predicated on healing, and we define healing as wholeness for our people," he said. "And food is a big part of that."
The farmers market runs on Thursdays at 5400 Lindburgh Blvd., and Saturdays at Clark Park in West Philadelphia.
