Gritty usually spends his time entertaining fans at Flyers games, but Flyers Fan Experience and Ticket Operations Vice-President Cindy Stutman says the mascot is now giving his time to the community during the pandemic.
"He brings so much joy to so many different parts of the community and being able to integrate him into all these different initiatives has really been phenomenal," she said.
Gritty has been a part of fire truck parades, virtual STEM days at local schools, and a recent hospital visit to the University of Pennsylvania.
"He was cheering on health care workers during a shift change and delivered 100 meals to them as well. He actually got to pay a special visit to the staff in the COVID unit, which was unexpected. Not inside, but outside," Stutman recounted.
Gritty has also been helping on social media, which includes a quarter-hour of power on Instagram with activities and special guests, Monday through Thursday at 12:30 p.m.
"He is very excited to be out there with the people once again, even it's from a distance and he's having a lot of fun and anxious to do more," said Stutman.
