
"If you feel yourself being taken out, don't swim straight back in to shore. You want to swim parallel to the beach," he said.
Rip currents often create a brownish streak in the water and eliminate most of the waves in that area.
"Try and stay as calm as you can and call for some help. Get some other people to notice, get the life guard's attention," said Booth.
He advises that it's very important to swim only at guarded beaches where help is there if you need it.
