The alleged incident happened during what the Perkiomen Valley School District describes as an overnight team building trip by the high school boys lacrosse team to upstate New York that was organized by the coach.
Superintendent Barbara Russell says they started an investigation as soon as the allegations were brought to their attention.
She says it’s not clear yet if hazing occurred as they’re wrapping up their investigation, but she says they’re taking it seriously.
"We don’t want this happening, we will not tolerate it and we will come to understand what did or didn’t happen and we’ll address it appropriately and we’ll respond accordingly," she said.
No disciplinary measures have been taken as they have not finished their investigation, and since it is still ongoing, Russell says they can’t say anything else.
However, Russell says she hopes parents and students understand they can reach out to her in confidence if necessary, and she says there is also a state-run website, where people can send anonymous reports that would get forwarded to the school.
