After 29 hours of discussions over five days, this jury has agreed on one of the three counts against 60-year-old Frank Nucera. It's unclear which one, and Judge Robert Kugler is allowing them to hold that verdict to themselves while they deliberate the other two counts.
Nucera is facing a hate crime charge for allegedly ramming a handcuffed teenage suspect into a door jamb three years ago. Prosecutors contend it happened because the teenager is an African American. Another Bordentown cop secretly recorded discussions with his then boss, in which he uses racial slurs, and some of those tapes were played at this trial.
Nucera is also accused of a civil rights violation and allegedly lying to investigators.
