EAGLEVILLE, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Former Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane was released from county jail Wednesday morning shortly before 8:30 a.m., having served eight months of her 10- to 23-month sentence with credit for good behavior.

Kane was all smiles as she climbed into a black Mercedes SUV, greeted by her twin sister.

As she walked from the gates of the jail, squinting into the bright sun, she told waiting reporters she was grateful to be out and thanked those who supported her.

As KYW Newsradio reported exclusively Tuesday, Kane got out early thanks to a Montgomery County Correctional Facility program that offers "good time" credit of six days per month.

Warden Julio Algarin says Kane was living dormitory-style with 16 other women and was working in the library.

Kane was a shooting star in state politics, the first Democrat and the first women elected to state attorney general.

But she was convicted in 2016 of leaking secret grand jury information to get back at a political rival, then lying under oath to try to cover it up.

She was out of jail on bail pending her appeal, but late last year the state Superior Court rejected that appeal, and she was sent here to county jail.

Her law license was revoked, and she will be on probation for several more years.
