CAMDEN, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Two Camden buildings will be awash in orange light for the rest of this month to show solidarity with Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas, cities victimized by mass shootings last weekend that left 31 people dead.

Camden City Hall and the Florio Center for Public Service just off the waterfront were selected for the statement being made by officials and community leaders alike.

"First to pay tribute to the victims and their families of these recent mass shootings and second, is to continue to raise awareness about the need for gun safety laws in the United States of America," Camden County Freeholder Director Lou Cappelli said. "Most Americans are fed up with the president and with the Republicans in the United States Senate that refuse to pass smart gun laws. Their refusal to act is resulting in the untimely deaths of dozens, hundreds of people."

He noted that Florio, a former governor and Congressman, was active on the gun control front and was one of the first to ban assault weapons in his state. The sentiment now is to restore the 10 year national ban that expired 15 years ago.
