'Love & Lust:' Franklin Institute event focuses on science of attraction

Franklin Institute

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- The Franklin Institute will offer its monthly "Science After Hours" event Tuesday evening, February 26. This month's theme is "Love & Lust."

Adam Piazza, Adult Program Specialist at the Franklin Institute, says in honor of the month of February, "Science After Hours" this month focuses on Valentine's related themes.

"We're looking at a whole bunch of things related to love, lust, reproduction, all of those topics," Pizza explained, "but we're also doing it in a very fun and silly way."

In addition to outside specialists from Jefferson University, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Arcadia University, he says they'll also have in-house programming.

"So we do have someone who will be conducting what's called the 'Safety First Game Show' with activities about myths and things that people may not know or maybe weren't aware of."

Piazza says they'll also have information about safe sex practices, STD's and more presented in a fun, nightclub style setting.

"It's important and it should be comfortable just to talk about sex so no matter what age," he said. 'We sometimes think it's still a slight taboo topic, so there's a lot of information that people will get that they maybe didn't think they needed to know even though they're an adult."

"Science After Hours" is an over 21 program.

"So what's great is that you are in this atmosphere that when you were a kid, you know, oh, museums they were fun, you can run around and do things," Piazza said. "That's the same idea here, but now there's no children here and you get to drink."
