PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man who had just parked his car Sunday night with his wife and children inside near 12th and South streets is in the hospital.
Police Commissioner Richard Ross says the 25-year-old man got out of the car about 8 p.m., and two men came up to him.
Ross said there's some confusion as to what happened, but the man ran off. One of the men fired a gun at him, striking him in the neck.
Police nearby arrived in response to the gunfire and took the man to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he's in stable condition.
Ross says the man's wife and children were not hurt, and the two men ran off.
"We know we have some cameras out there," Ross said. "Maybe that will help us glean more from the investigation, and we'll see what happens."
The commissioner says the wounded man gave a statement to detectives at the hospital, but he wouldn't speculate on a motive.
