The first day of school was scheduled for Sept. 4, but the start date has been delayed after mold was discovered.
In a letter to parents, district Superintendent Ronnie Tarchichi said after a summer of rain and high humidity, mold was found inside the building on Gladwyn Avenue. He said mold remediation was underway, and it's expected to be finished by Sept. 6.
"It was just on the walls. Nothing on the ceilings, and really nothing on the floors either," he explained. "It was kind of located to file cabinets and what you would see on little desks."
As a result, the new start of school has now been pushed back to Sept. 9.
Because of the delay, the district is tacking on three days to the end of the school year in June.
The letter says the administration is working with the school board to develop a plan to make sure the mold issue doesn't crop up again.
