New Jersey eases into Stage 2 of recovery plan

Part of the governor’s reluctance to allow that indoor experience stems from what he’s seeing in other states that are reopening their economies at a much faster rate.

Many southern states are seeing a spike in viral cases, and Murphy doesn’t want that to happen in New Jersey.

“There’s a whole group of people who want us to go faster. There’s another group of people over here who want us to go slower. Which tells me that we’re probably going at the right pace,” Murphy said.

Positive test results and the rate of infection spread in the state are among the lowest in the nation.

“And what that means is, on a daily basis, we are getting an increase of less than one percent of new cases. And that’s happening because the residents of our county have done such a terrific job in social distancing, hand washing, staying home when necessary, wearing a mask. All of your hard work is paying off,” Cappelli said.

State officials announced 470 additional positive cases, bringing the state total to 167,426 cases. And with 51 additional coronavirus-related fatalities, the state total is now at 12,727 deaths.
