Higher Education Secretary Zakiya Smith Ellis expects most schools will take a hybrid approach between in-person and online instruction.
“We are aiming to strike a balance between responsible public health considerations and the safe resumption of activities through a staged framework that will slowly and deliberately reinvigorate campuses' collaborative culture across the state,” she explained.
Schools must obtain state approval for their reopening plan at least two weeks before any staff or students return.
They will also be required to allow any student or faculty member to participate virtually if they need that option.
Gov. Phil Murphy expects to provide guidance on summer and fall plans for grades K-12 next week.
With 330 additional positive coronavirus cases, the state total is now at 167,703 cases. Officials also announced 47 additional coronavirus-related deaths, bringing the state total to 12,769 fatalities.
