Joanne Chesimard, also known as Assata Shakur, was convicted in 1977 of the execution-style killing of Trooper Werner Foerester. After her getaway two years later, she surfaced in Cuba where she was granted political asylum.
New Jersey state police colonel Patrick Callahan says she's not the freedom fighter or civil rights activist she claims to be.
"She's a domestic terrorist and a convicted killer. That's the truth of this, and that's why she needs to be back in the United States, serving the rest of her term for the crime she was convicted of."
FBI Special Agent Gregory Ehrie says they remain dedicated to bringing her to justice.
"We constantly look for her whereabouts and try to get her to a place where we can extradite her."
The reward for information leading to her capture was increased to $2 million a couple years ago, $1 million each from the FBI and state police.
