Old City's weekly summer happy hour is now halfway over.
Job Itzkowitz, executive director of the Old City District, said with just a handful of Thursdays left until the end of summer, Eats has been good for the business of the 50 restaurants that participate.
"Philadelphia is a different place than it was 15 years ago when it really emptied out, and now there are a lot of people here during the summer looking for things to do," he said.
Itzkowitz said right now, they don't know exactly how many people come out specifically for Old City Eats on Thursday evenings, but with new pedestrian counters that were installed in April, they'll have more information next year.
"So we have counters up. You would never notice them if you walk by them. They're not video, there's just sort of like an alarm system. You cross the line and it measures that you've crossed the line," Itzkowitz explained.
He said information gathered by the pedestrian counters will help businesses better cater to the neighborhood.
"They help us to be able to tell businesses 'this is a good time to be open, there's foot traffic. Maybe you want to stay open an extra hour or maybe you can open an hour later,'" he added.
