PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Lights and Christmas go together, so it's especially annoying when the power goes out on Christmas. PECO knows that so they keep several dozen employees on duty for Christmas, and they had plenty to do this year.
While everyone else is off for Christmas, Pat McGinty was out with one of PECO's emergency response crews.
"When a customer's power's out, they call us and we're the first ones to get out here," McGinty said.
Small, scattered outages kept McGinty and the rest of the crews busy. Lights briefly went out in Lower Merion late Christmas Eve, then early Christmas morning across the county in Ambler.
And in Northeast Philadelphia, an outage left more than a thousand people without power temporarily. Outages are hard to predict or prevent, which is why the holiday is not a day off for everyone.
"Merry Christmas and we're on our way," McGinty said.
