Philadelphia and the surrounding counties are still in the “red” phase of Gov. Tom Wolf’s gradual reopening plan. Because of that, Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine says they are asking people to postpone plans to visit the Shore.
“You may have gone to the beach every Memorial Day weekend for years, but this is not the time to do that. Let’s wait for the case counts to be lower for it to be safe,” he said.
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy does expect big crowds, and he urges everyone to wear a mask.
“It is an important — vitally important — additional measure of protection for you all and others against the spread of COVID-19,” Murphy said.
Meanwhile, mayors of some beach towns say they aren’t sure what to expect for crowds, because many restaurants and other places people like to hang out are either closed, or open with a lot of restrictions.
