Cindy Adams Dunn, secretary of Pennsylvania’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, said this could be a record-breaking weekend for state parks.
“Most of the parks that fill up on the holiday weekends are in southeast Pennsylvania, and it just speaks to the popularity and the need,” Dunn said. “Some of our parks have been filling up as early as 10 or 11 in the morning on holiday weekends. You don’t want to be disappointed. So, plan ahead.”
So, that means places like Nockamixon State Park and Neshaminy State Park in Bucks County and Marsh Creek State Park in Chester County are going to be busy.
“It’ll be a nice weekend for picnicking, swimming, hiking, biking, anything you would want to do outdoors,” Dunn said, "but I’d say plan ahead so that you have a good experience and safe experience. Obviously, that means bringing the mask, social distancing.”
Dunn said, with more than 120 state parks available for recreational activities, visitors might want to consider some new destinations.
"Get online, pick out a few options," she said. "Perhaps travel a little farther — you got a three-day weekend — and visit a park further into Pennsylvania that may not be quite so crowded."
