Very few of them are taking advantage of the utility's payment-help programs.
Funmi Williamson, PECO’s chief customer officer, says it’s the first time thousands of customers have ever been in this position — and they may not know what to do.
Williamson said PECO’s own survey of delinquent accounts found only 2% are enrolled in customer-assistance programs. She said PECO is reaching out to let them know they don’t have to go it alone.
“If you’re newly enrolled into the customer-assistance program, you essentially qualify for bill forgiveness,” she said.
However, Williamson said, there are certain benchmarks for eligibility.
“There’s a specific income threshold where you have to meet that criteria to qualify,” she said.
Williamson said the best thing a customer can do is give PECO a call or go online and see what’s available.
Now is the time to do that, she said, because the amount of assistance available is limited and could run out.
