Megan Healey, executive director of the Commission for Women, says female veterans make many sacrifices to serve and deserve to be honored.
"We just really feel that it's important that we, as a commission for women, really seek out the best and brightest of our country, and we really believe that people who are serving their country are doing just that," said Healey.
The deadline for nominations is Feb. 1.
This year for the first time, nominations can be made online.
In addition, the commission is gearing up for a big event next year.
"This year marks the kickoff to the centennial event in 2020 to celebrate the 19th Amendment and women's suffrage in this country. And so we are planning some events that will kick off this March," she added.
