HARRISBURG, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) -- During a week that included Philadelphia Democrat Brian Sims making national headlines for sharing videos of him berating protesters outside an abortion clinic, leaders of both parties in the state House took the rare step of publicly addressing members about their behavior.
Mentioning no member by name and referencing no particular incident, the two floor leaders of the state House nonetheless took turns asking members to be mindful of their behavior.
“There is no room for hate in any form in this chamber or in our own lives," said House Majority Leader, Republican Bryan Cutler. "The people of Pennsylvania expect better from us.”
Democrat Frank Dermody, the House Minority Leader, said members need to respect the views of all Pennsylvanians and need to respect each other.
“To do anything different does nothing to further mission we share of improving the lives of all Pennsylvanians," Dermody said. "At this moment, the nation is watching this chamber.”
Dermody urged members to work in way that will make constituents proud of the people they sent to the state capitol to represent them.
