PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Meek Mill Weekend in Philadelphia begins Friday, and City Council bestowed the honor on the rapper at Thursday's session.
Councilman Kenyatta Johnson sponsored the resolution in tribute to the rapper's charitable work and efforts on criminal justice reform. Meek Mill attended with his 7-year-old son and posed for pictures with star-struck council members and staff.
He's a performer and entrepreneur, but is perhaps most famous in Philadelphia for being jailed on probation violations, sparking a Free Meek Mill movement that he credits with his eventual release.

March 14, 2019 "I've been in prison a few times for probation violations, but the one time my City of Philadelphia showed me support was the one time I came out of prison. And I want to show the support back and stand up for the people who stood up for me," he said.
His legal battle isn't over as it's still on appeal.
