The Senior Housing Assistance Repair Program, or SHARP, is among the services offered by the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging.
Mark Myers, PCA's director of facility operations and housing programs, says with one call, qualifying seniors can get modifications done that will keep the home safe and accessible.
"We will do exterior doors. We will door interior doors. We will install locks on the home. We will install basement steps if the basement steps are failing; we'll go in there and replace the entire staircase," he said.
Myers says low-income residents will pay nothing, and for others there's a sliding-fee scale with funding coming from state lottery money.
