PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio)  The Union’s Fight for Philly campaign has spent the last several weeks helping the community deal with the pandemic.

“To be honest, it’s the least we can do. There are people out there on the front lines fighting the fight every day,” said Paul Howard, executive director of the Philadelphia Union Foundation.

On Tuesday, the Union delivered 2,500 KN95 masks to four Jefferson Health hospitals in the area.

He said the initiative is the Union’s chance to help the community during the pandemic.

“We don’t just play for the sake of playing for entertainment. We exist. We’re the heart of the community. This is an opportunity to really root ourselves in the communities that we look to serve,” Howard said.

Howard was happy the organization could make a direct impact for hospital workers on the front line of the crisis.

“It is satisfying that we’re able to play our part, but it is only a small part. The real credit and the real gratitude here is to these essential workers,” he added.

The next event for the Fight for Philly initiative will be a blood drive on Thursday at Subaru Park. To make an appointment or get more information, you can go philadelphiaunion.com.
