Philadelphia Union Foundation raises COVID-19 relief money with online event

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) The Philadelphia Union Foundation put together an online fundraiser Tuesday, with proceeds going to its Fight for Philly campaign, which raises money to provide COVID-19 relief.

Goalkeeper Andre Blake was excited to do his part for the community.

“For me, I’m always encouraged and motivated to be part of these events, to show my support, and to always give back,” Blake said.

The event featured prize drawings, a silent auction and Q&A sessions, which included a special appearance by NBA star and Union co-owner Kevin Durant.

“I’m just looking forward to helping the vision that the ownership group had in place. I’ve seen so many amazing plans for the future, especially for the younger generation and specifically for that Chester community,” Durant said.

Union owner Jay Sugarman is hoping fans will continue to support the Fight for Philly fundraising efforts and also help bring awareness to social issues in their communities.

“I hope you’ll continue to fight for Philly, keep supporting the Union and the Union Foundation and help us seize this moment and make our country better,” Sugarman said.

The event raised approximately $35,000.
