Philadelphia Wings' announcer fired after making offensive remark

The Philadelphia Wings will look for their first win on Saturday night in Rochester.

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) —  The Philadelphia Wings lacrosse team announced Monday that they have "permanently removed" announcer Shawny Hill following "offensive comments" he made during the team's home game over the weekend.

Hill has also been suspended from all in-arena announcing assignments at the Wells Fargo Center, where he served as Flyers in-game host.

During the Wing's game agaisnt the Georgia Swarm on Saturday night, Hill said, "Let's snip the pony tail," directed at Swarm player Lyle Thompson, a Native American. Thompson said that led to fans saying they were going to scalp him.

Hill has apologized for his "poorly chosen" words, saying they "were not intended as racially motivated."

The Wings say they are working closely with the National Lacrosse League to implement ongoing diversity training for all employees which will include a focus on the Native North American roots and traditions of the sport.
