With the departure of McFaddens at the end of last season, Phillies Executive Vice President Dave Buck says the front office and Aramark decided to take go in a completely different direction.
"We wanted to connect it to the ballpark. McFaddens worked while it was here, but they were like a tenant at the ballpark. This is now part of the ballpark," he said.
The complex will be called Pass and Stow, in honor of John Pass and John Stow, the foundry workers who recast the original Liberty Bell in 1753.
Buck says hammers and saws are in motion at the site along the third base side.
"You come in the gate, the third base gate. Turn to your right and you'll see a giant outdoor bar, a covered bar. I think it's a 30- by 40-wood pergola with lots of tables and chairs underneath. You'll see an outdoor pizza oven," Buck said. "We'll have a little water feature and some fire pits. It's just gonna be a great outdoor area right there."
And of course, a wide variety of beer.
The indoor bar will be more family-friendly with dozens of TV's and, just for fun, a split-flap board - like the one that was just taken down at 30th Street Station - flashing balls and strikes and the line score of the game.
"Why not throw a little Philadelphia flavor and a little old school at the same time," Buck added.
Another blast from the past will be the 19-foot high Liberty Bell replica that once graced the top of Veterans Stadium.
Shake Shack will also be moving into the ballpark with seating for 120 people.
