Inspector Anthony Washington has been accused of sexually harassing fellow police officers in the past, and he oversaw the SVU up until Friday, when he was replaced by Inspector Benjamin Naish.
Washington still oversees the Homicide, Major Crimes, and Accident Investigation units. According to a police spokesman, the “realignment was one of several current and pending changes to the organizational structure” of the department.
The “realignment” follows the indictment of Chief Inspector Carl Holmes, who was charged last week with several sexual assault counts — more than a decade after the city settled sexual harassment and assault lawsuits, totaling over $1 million.
Holmes is suspended and will be dismissed within the month. He is out on bail and is next due in court for his preliminary hearing on Nov. 14.
Washington has not been charged.
