Philly basketball fan makes it on 30 NBA Jumbotrons in 30 days

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia basketball fan trusted his process to complete a buzzer beating challenge.

David Delooper just started watching basketball a few years ago, but the Fishtown resident immediately fell in love with the sport and decided to spread that love across the country through a unique challenge.

"The 30 for 30 for 30 challenge was to go to 30 NBA games in 30 days and get on the Jumbotron 30 times," Delooper said.

Delooper started with his beloved Philadelphia 76ers and whether it was by car or plane, he made sure he was on the Jumbotron of a new arena night after night.

"Toughest time was probably a four-day stretch where we had to fly from Sacramento to Cleveland to Golden state then Minnesota," he said.

To save on costs, Delooper and his friend Colin — who photographed their journey — stayed with friends, family, and in cars.

Delooper also devised his own technique to get on the Jumbotron.

"When I went to the New York Knicks, I dressed like the Statue of Liberty. When I went to the Philadelphia 76ers, I dressed like a colonial or Ben Franklin. I tried to relate to that team to stand a better chance of getting on the Jumbotron," he explained.

Delooper says during the challenge, he spent about $5,000 on his travels and ate more than his fair share of fast food.

He was able to get some support from his job and received a small leave of absence.

He says in the end, it was all worth it.

"The highlight was at the end, Charles Barkley and Shaq on TNT were talking about it a little," he said.
