“In the 12th District alone, we had over 600 domestic violence assaults,” said Capt. Scott Drissel. About one-third of those incidents were aggravated assaults, in which the victim was seriously hurt.
“If you are a child and you are growing up, you see that happening too. They are the victims no one talks about,” he said. “Domestic violence is an underreported crime.”
Philadelphia police — partnered with Women Organized Against Rape (WOAR), the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations, the Anti-Violence Partnership of Philadelphia, and others — will host a public resource events for domestic violence victims, hoping to offer them a way out.
