Police say it was around 11 p.m. when three or four men burst into a home on Rhawn Street.
"They pushed an air conditioner in, and entered through a window," said Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum with Northeast Detective Division.
Rosenbaum says after that, they went into a bedroom where a husband and wife in their 50s and 60s were sleeping.
"They were wearing ski masks, and one had a black hand gun. They demanded money," Rosenbaum said.
He says that's when things got violent.
"They were beaten, causing minor injuries to their face. They were tied up with some rope," Rosenbaum added.
After that, Rosenbaum says, the robbers turned their attention to the couple's cousin, also in her 50s, who was asleep upstairs.
He says they beat her with a lamp, tied her up, then stole her cellphone and a few hundred bucks.
"No one deserves that, to be tied up and beaten," Rosenbaum said.
Rosenbaum says after the thieves left, the victims freed themselves and ran to relatives, who then called police.
He adds they believe the couple - who are not business owners or have a lot money - were targeted.
