PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police want to identify two men who were captured on surveillance cameras trying to set a West Oak Lane house on fire, which looks like an attempt to kill the mother and child inside.
It happened early Saturday morning around 4:15. In the video, you can clearly see two men splashing a liquid from a bottle up a wall and then throw a flaming rag against the home along Rugby Street near East Washington Lane.
Staff Inspector Sekou Kinebrew, spokesman for the police department, says they liquid was an accelerant, and they want to identify the two men.
"Hopefully someone recognizes the individuals on there, or they just have information, and they want to say, 'hey I heard someone talking' and they want to let us know. Because certainly we don't want this to happen anywhere, and we don't want these people to say 'Hey, I didn't finish the job, I am going to try again,'" he said.
They do not believe the homeowner was the target but that it could have been a case of mistaken identity.
They are urging the public to watch the video and call in any tips, even if you want to remain anonymous.
