Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment already owns the Sixers, New Jersey Devils (a Flyers nemesis) and Crystal Palace of the English Premier League. An HBSE spokesman declined comment to KYW Newsradio.
According to the Variety report, “talks are still in the early stages.”
The New York Post reported Harris and Blitzer have become more serious about the possibility of buying the Mets. The current owners, the Wilpon family, had a deal in place with hedge fund manager Steve Cohen, but it fell through because Cohen wanted control of the team sooner than the Wilpons were willing to relinquish it.
The Post reports Harris’ and Blitzer’s interest might be sparked by rumors the Wilpons are willing to let go of their television network, SNY (SportsNet New York), which would allow Harris and Blitzer to merge their other sports franchises onto a “superregional” sports network.
Multiple reports say Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez are interested in purchasing the Mets as well.
