Recreational activity was banned on Jan. 15 after a sewage spill at a pumping station off Chews Landing Road that took a couple hours to repair. The county’s Municipal Utilities Authority acted out of an abundance of caution according to county spokesman Dan Keashen, who says water quality tests were conducted for several days.
"Organic wastewater had dissipated and based on the testing, the water quality has been brought back to its's baseline quality," he said.
That means people can go back to fishing along the creek, which, this time of year, is about as much recreation as goes on there. Creek water is not used for human consumption.
There are no signs the spill got beyond the local scene and there’s no long term environmental impact in the area.
