Through the years, a startling number of teams and athletes featured on the magazine's cover have immediately afterward suffered an injury or calamity of some kind.
For example, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Jack Lambert was on the July 30, 1984, cover, and he missed most of that season with an injury.
The July 22, 2013, cover, featured Jason Grilli, the first Pittsburgh Pirate to be there in more than 20 years. Then he strained his right forearm and was placed on the disabled list.
Right after Eagles quarterback Nick Foles graced the front of the Dec. 15, 2013, issue, the Birds ended a five-game winning streak.
It's not always bad, though. Foles made the cover again in January of last year, and he of course led the Eagles to their first-ever Super Bowl over the New England Patriots.
