The group was among a delegation of more than 100 students, faculty and staff who just came back.
Murphy says Newark Liberty International Airport will serve as one of 11 major airports in the country authorized to receive travelers from China, requiring extra screening for the virus.
KYW's sister station, KNX in Los Angeles, spoke to an American who is quarantined in Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the outbreak.
John McGory, who teaches English at a university there, says fear is gripping the city and its residents.
"You know, being in a city as large as Wuhan and as friendly as Wuhan, it's been a great city to live in for six years. It's just really sad to see what's taken place there," he said.
There are more than 20,000 cases of the Wuhan coronavirus worldwide, most of them in China.
There are 11 confirmed cases in the United States.
