Now, saying this coming Monday will be his last as speaker, he gave his farewell address to members Wednesday.

“This new generation of leaders is ready to take the torch, and I’m excited to hand it off,” he said.

One of those new, young leaders is Republican Bryan Cutler, the House majority leader.

“There is no one in your district who can deny the lasting impact that you have made on your community and our commonwealth,” Cutler said.

Cutler would be a leading candidate to replace Turzai as speaker if he seeks the post as the legislature faces challenges including possible law enforcement reforms and the ongoing pandemic.
