HARRISBURG, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Pennsylvania is moving closer to a possible change in the way its lieutenant governors are selected.

Currently, lieutenant governor candidates are chosen by party primary voters.

Both the state House and Senate have now passed a proposed amendment to the state constitution that would have the nominees for governor choose a running mate, who would then have to be approved by the party.

The sponsor of the bill has said the state's top two elected officials need to see "eye to eye" on issues.

The proposed constitutional amendment will have to be approved again by the state House and Senate in the next two-year session of the legislature before a voter referendum is held.
