Supermarkets, including Acme and Giant, are installing Plexiglas partitions to separate cashiers from customers and to slow the spread of COVID-19.
The Plexiglas has been installed in Acme pharmacies and service desks, too — “any other kind of kiosk that has a register,” said Acme spokeswoman Dana Ward.
Stores are taking additional steps to encourage shoppers to maintain social distancing.
“We are line-queuing to keep people at a six-foot distance, as well as putting arrows on the floors in the aisles to kind of keep everybody one way,” she said. “That way, we only have one way of traffic — up one aisle, down another, up one aisle, down another.”
“We just ask if you do bring your own reusable bags that you bag your own groceries,” Ward said. “Our baggers will still bag groceries that are in-store, provided bags.”
Workers also sanitize the checkout belts every hour, as well as keypads and other surfaces frequently touched by customers.
