PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police say a teen girl told her guidance counselor that she witnessed a man being killed a few weeks ago.
Police haven’t publicly identified the victim yet. The medical examiner will be determining how he died. In the meantime, Acting Police Commissioner Christine Coulter says investigators are trying to make sense of what happened.
"It’s disturbing that somebody would do something like this to a human being — discard them like trash. We’re fortunate that the student did come forward," said acting Police Commissioner Christine Coulter. "Because I don’t know how much longer it would have taken to discover the person’s body and make those attempts to identify and notify their family."
That girl, Coulter says, is being treated as a witness and as of now it looks like she wasn’t criminally involved.
Cops found the body in a trash can at 6th and Rockland streets in Hunting Park around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Coulter says the girl knew the person or people who killed the man, but the exact relationships among them — the teen, the victim and the killer or killers — hasn’t been made clear publicly yet.
So far, police have made no arrests.
