State Senator Shirley Turner of Lawrenceville introduced the idea of sticking with Daylight Saving year-round back in May. Not only is the "spring forward-fall back" process confusing to some people, there are health reasons to consider.
“Researchers have shown that this has an adverse effect on the body,” Turner said. “It affects your metabolism. They claim it disrupts your heartbeat. It hinders you in terms of your performance because there’s sleep deprivation as a result.”
A few states have already approved the idea, but they’re required to get a federal OK before making any change. New Jersey would have to do the same if Turner’s bill, which has languished in committee, gets approved. She’s likely to reintroduce it in January.
So what about the rest of the region? Pennsylvania has a bill sticking with Eastern Standard Time year round. That, too, isn’t going anywhere. As for Delaware, they’ll consider going with Daylight Saving Time if neighboring states do likewise.
