As with the Democrats, the coronavirus pandemic forced a scaled-down convention for the RNC. And just as the Democrats last week attacked the president’s response to the virus, Republicans this week are standing by Trump.
“A Biden-Harris administration would be much, much worse," she said. "Last time, Joe’s boss was Obama. This time, it would be Pelosi, Sanders and ‘The Squad’” — referring to the four women elected to the U.S. House in the 2018 mid-term elections: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan.
Many of the speakers, including the first member of the president’s family to address the convention, Donald Trump Jr., and the St. Louis couple famous for pointing guns at peaceful protesters marching in front of their home, talked about lawlessness and chaos in a potential Biden presidency.
South Carolina U.S. Sen. Tim Scott closed the show with a more optimistic message. The first African-American senator from a Southern state since reconstruction had a more optimistic tone, saying the election isn’t just about Donald Trump and Joe Biden.“It’s about the promise of America," he said — but there’s a key difference between right and left.“Do we want a society that breeds success or a culture that cancels everything it even slightly disagrees with."
Trump made pre-recorded appearances, speaking to essential workers and American hostages freed in his term.
