Mayor Marty Small announced that billionaire Carl Icahn, the owner of the building shuttered since 2014, had submitted demolition plans that’ll level both hotel towers and most of the former casino, leaving only a restaurant and the parking garage standing.
Icahn was under a court order to submit a demolition plan to the city after safety concerns surfaced along the boardwalk.
Now there appears to be concerns over when all this will happen.
Small said Icahn plans to finish the job by June of next year, which he said is unacceptable.
“That’s smack dab in the middle of our season. My administration’s goal is to get it down by the end of the year or late February in time for cleanup for next summer season,” Small told NBC10.
City officials say meetings with the demolition company hired to do the work are set for next week.
