ALLENTOWN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — The Transportation Security Administration seized a military rocket-propelled grenade launcher at Lehigh Valley International Airport Monday.
A Florida man tried to check a bag with the unassembled parts inside. The bag contained the barrel, trigger, sights and a grenade.
Upon further investigation, TSA determined is was not a functioning launcher and the grenade was a realistic replica.
The man was detained and questioned at his departure gate by police. The man told authorities he thought he was allowed to bring the replica weapons aboard in a checked bag.
The launcher was confiscated by police, and he was then allowed to catch his flight to Orlando.
TSA says anyone who bring weapons or replica weapons on a plane could face penalties up to $13,000.
