Around 7 p.m. on Feb. 25, surveillance video shows the 29-year-old victim parking his car — appearing to lock it — and walking into the 7-Eleven at the corner of Byberry and Academy roads. Moments later, a tall, hooded man creeps next to the car and jiggles the back passenger door, but he’s unable to get in.
The suspect walks off into view of another surveillance camera, but he returns and somehow opens the driver side door. He seems to unlock the back door, then jumps in the back seat.
The victim leaves the store and gets in his car, unaware that he’s headed home with a machete-wielding man in the back seat.
Officers say when the victim got to his home on Waterview Lane, the suspect jumped out and attacked him with the machete. The two struggled over the weapon, detectives say, and the suspect eventually fled from the scene.
The victim suffered deep lacerations to both hands.
Authorities say the 6-foot-1-inch suspect has a thin build, a blond beard and green eyes. He was wearing a black mask halfway across his face and a gray hoodie.
Police urge anyone who may know the suspect to call 911 or submit a tip via phone, at 215-686-8477, or text, at 773847.
