PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Key factors of your health could play a role in your treatment if you have bleeding on the brain.

After a stroke, it's common to have more tests to figure out what caused the brain to bleed. But, that may not be necessary, according to Dr. Pascal Jabbour, professor of neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

He says only certain patients will need additional testing to determine the cause and what treatment might be needed.

"In general, young patients that don't have any risk factors that present with a brain hemorrhage in a certain location and a certain size, those patients are the population where we need to do further investigation," Jabbour said.

He says not scheduling those extra tests saves money and prevents the patients from receiving unnecessary radiation.
