
"I told them smile the whole day, because nobody in this room may ever see it again," she said. "It's so hard to get there. I want them to make sure that they're enjoying every moment, every day of this process, to be honest. Enjoy being in practice. Enjoy the bus ride there. It's March, and it's called 'March Madness' for a reason. It's a new record for everybody. ... Fifteen years from now, they'll still be talking about it, and that's the beauty of this sport."
Kintner credits the leadership of senior guards Devan Rimmer and Madison Ireland as critical to Widener's success. She talked about some other reasons the Pride are still playing
"We're a gritty team," she said. "We like to get up and down the floor. We want to run, we want to get out in transition and we do it well."
Christopher Newport is 23-4 and the champion of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. Kintner on what she expects in this first-round match-up.
"I think you are going to see a very, very fast-paced game," she said. "They are going to press us for 40 minutes, and I'm going to press them for 40 minutes. So it's going to be an up-tempo game. I think you're going to see a lot of running and gunning, and that's the style we like to play."
The winner of this game will play the winner of Scranton and Endicott in the second round.
Widener and Christopher Newport get underway at 5 p.m. on Friday.
