WILMINGTON, Del. (KYW Newsradio) — A Wilmington health care system set up shop in a parking lot on Friday to test anyone who showed symptoms of the novel coronavirus.

For four hours, a few hundred drivers pulled up to ChristianaCare nurses, who had set up a triage unit behind Frawley Stadium. Those without symptoms were sent away. Those showing symptoms got the full COVID-19 test without getting out of their car.

The health care system will deliver results to those who undergo the tests, a process that could take a while. Corbo couldn’t say how many testing kits were on hand, but she insisted all who needed one would get one.

"Having this event here is intended to take some of the pressure off of the services that the health system has, such as our emergency departments, because there are those who require medical treatment that is unrelated to coronavirus," she added. "So this is us stepping forward to meet what we see as a community need."

So many people showed up, police had to help with traffic control on neighboring streets as drivers waited in line. Some wore surgical masks as a precaution.
