HARRISBURG, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) -- Gov. Tom Wolf has offered an update on his administration’s efforts to minimize the impact of the federal government shutdown on Pennsylvanians.

Wolf says his administration is temporarily using state funds where it can to fill gaps created by the stalemate in Washington. In a statement, the governor said Pennsylvania is one of a number of states waiving work registration and search requirements for furloughed federal employees eligible for unemployment compensation.

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families will continue through at least mid-April using prior-year federal dollars, while state dollars will fund more than 100,000 child-care slots for low-income families.

The Women, Infants and Children program is funded through February.

Meanwhile, for now, a report on drinking water contamination in the suburbs from chemicals on military bases remains on hold due to the shutdown.
