It's been almost 3 years since season 3 premiered, but "Stranger Things" has finally unveiled a pair of release dates for the show's upcoming fourth season.
The first half, known as Volume 1, will arrive on Netflix on May 27, 2022, while Volume 2 will hit the streaming service on July 1, 2022.
After unveiling posters for several of the upcoming season's episodes, a statement was posted from show creators Matt & Ross Duffer letting fans know that the unprecedented length of season 4 is what lead to it being split into two volumes. In the statement, they also reveal that the show will conclude with season 5.
"Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things," they wrote in an open letter. "At the time, we predicted the story would last four or five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but — as you'll soon see for yourselves — we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last."
"With nine scripts, over 800 pages, almost two years of filming, thousands of visual effects shots, and a runtime nearly twice the length of any previous season, Stranger Things 4 was the most challenging season yet, but also the most rewarding one," the Duffer brothers wrote. "Everyone involved is incredibly proud of the results, and we can't wait to share it with you."
The Duffer Brothers did hint, however, that there are many stories left to tell within the "Stranger Things" universe so a sequel or spinoffs aren't entirely out of the question.
