PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two Instagram-famous comic actors joined forces to released a film designed to unite Philadelphia's comedy scene.
"It's a joke, but it's serious right now, because we need to laugh right now, said Marquise Boone, one-half of the comedy duo Boone and Harris.
"We wanted to do something for the city," he said, "so we got all the the city's social media comedians together."
Boone and Rich Harris created "The Bid," a movie about a pair of Philly rappers wrongfully convicted of killing a police canine and thrown in prison. That's where Boone, a first time inmate, soon becomes "the bid," the funniest person in the prison.
"And everybody hang around him to make their time go faster," said Boone.
A number of comic talents, including Ghee Funny and Haha Davis, play inmates. For Harris, the film links his past and present. He did 11 years inside, and is now creating opportunities for other men.
"Because it's a lot of great men behind there that have some really special talent," he said, "and they really, really, really deserve a second shot."
The Bid premiered this week on Amazon Prime Video. You can rent it there or visit the official movie website for more options.
